This long running and ongoing project is an exploration of one of the dwindling number of ancient woodlands in the UK. Due to it's rugged terrain this area is likely to have had continuous woodland cover for many centuries, possibly dating back to the original post-glacial forests.
Few places in the UK escape man's reach entirely and traces and scars of human presence are prominent in this landscape mostly in the form of mining and quarrying. Older and less obvious signs of mans presence can be also found if you look hard enough in the form of prehistoric rock art left amongst the moss covered boulders. The rugged terrain has largely protected the areas natural beauty and will hopefully help to preserve this unique location as a relatively untouched sanctuary for native trees and wildlife.
